Barton, Bacon, and Books. :-)

Well, the biggest news since we last talked is a splendid afternoon spend with David Barton. Yes, THE David Barton. He gave us a tour through his personal library, showed us a lock of George Washington's hair, a poster that said 'Support White Supremacy, vote Democrat!', the first English Bible printed in the United States, and two muskets from the war for independence.

It was an absolute blast! I'd post pictures, but Kelly Reins already did so on her blog. Check 'em out.

Also, Bacon has me fascinated. Dr. Richard Bacon is a genius, and extremely well studied. Visiting with him must be like visiting with R.J. Rushdoony. In fact, Bacon spent a bit of time with Rushdoony before his death.

Lately, I've been listening to his Domestic Duties set of sermons, and it's well worth my time. They're addictive, and very well thought out. I've been debating Calvinism vs. Arminianism for quite a while now, and he put it well. Pray like it depends on God, work like it depends on you. What is that? It's a curious biblical blend of both Calvinism and Arminianism. After all, the two don't contradict each other if looked at biblically, but when twisted, both of them are wrong.

I suppose that if a person doesn't agree with the Bible, he'll twist it to say what he wants it to. Bacon doesn't do that, and I appreciate it. Love it, in fact.

So, that brings me to books. I haven't had time to talk much about that for a while, but here's a little update.

Boy Meets Girl, Joshua Harris.

Fantastic book. Covers courtship principles thoroughly, and it's far better written than 'I kissed dating goodbye'. I read that right before Todd Rogers arrived from Alaska.

Then I read 'David Livingstone', which for all practical purposes is a youth dramatization of David Livingstone's life in novel form. It was good. I disagree with much of what Livingstone did regarding his family, but he was an incredible man. Traveled over 30,000 miles of African terrain in his lifetime. Incredible.

I'm now almost finished with Audie Murphy's autobiography. Lemme tell ya, the movie was better, and cleaner. Stick to the movie.

David is almost finished capturing the footage from Salvation Mountain, and apparently has had fun watching it. I don't blame him, it's interesting footage. I'll be ordering a hard drive soon, and then editing begins.

Well, that's the news in short-form.

Hope it helped!

God Bless!
