Shoot 2, Day 7 - Production Photos

After our God-given rest, we picked up filming again on Monday, August 25'th. Day seven of the second shoot, we were blessed to have multi-award winning producer Colin Gunn as a guest star in the film, and he brought one of his awards with him.

Colin is a modest man, but his accomplishments are not. Working with him and learning from him was a great experience, and we would gladly do so again. For those of you who didn't think this documentarian could pull off dramatic acting, we were pleasantly surprised and we believe you will be too. :-)

HeuMoore hopes to work with Colin again in 2009 on an untitled issue documentary project, but that idea is still in the talking phase.

Life, by Mike.

Mike Thorn is assistant camera-man on the Widow's Might, and a champion researcher/student/teacher. Truly an honor and a privelege to have him on set with us, he is a daily encouragement and a great teacher to all of us. He is now going to be writing a series of posts (interacting with you, the reader) regarding the process of 'movie magic'. He is definitely the guy to talk to, and I hope you take advantage of his offer. :-)

And with that, Mike Thorn:

"Hey y'all - quick note from Mike here. I know that many of you have been following the daily production blogs and have been enjoying hearing from different departments during production. For many people, I think, making movies is a little bit of "black magic" - a lot of people show up in one place, make a lot of noise and commotion for a while, and beautiful pictures appear on the projector in the theatre. But there's really a lot more to it than that, and I want to help educate people about what *really* happens! There's nothing "magic" about it at all - just a lot of hard work, talent, and a few time-tested techniques...

So, over the next (and last) two weeks of production, starting on Monday, August 18th, I'd like to hear your questions about how a film is made. I'll respond to your questions in the Behind-The-Scenes videos (courtesy of Jeremiah Warren), and maybe if I don't rattle on too long, they'll make it into the video! Please remember that I'm only in the Camera department, so questions about costume design or sound recording are out of my league. But, feel free to ask anything you want to know about the visual side of film production! And, if I get a few non-camera questions, I'll try to pull Teddy or Chip aside...
All you have to do is send your question to my email address - mike.thorn@gmail.com - and I'll answer it as soon as I can. I'll try to answer all of them if possible. And please, try to keep the questions short - I'll be answering on the run! There's no downtime on a independent feature film set! And don't try to weasel any spoilers out of me, either... ; )

Best regards,

Mike

You! Our casting call is open to as many people as can make it! Please spread the word. We are hoping to get about 1,500 people. The process of movie magic is an unforgettable experience, you willl love it!

4850 S FM 148 Kaufman, TX

It's along 148 between Scurry and Crandall, right across the street from the big radio microwave tower. It's the blue and white farm house. You can't miss it.

Fun on Set: Behind the Scenes of The Widow's Might

Fun moments from the first two weeks of Production. Filmed and edited by Jeremiah Warren.

Don't get the wrong idea... We did more than just goof off during the production. ;-) One of the things that keeps the film fun and light-hearted, is a crew that is fun and light hearted. There was an abundance of fun and light heartedness on set. These are some extreme examples.

:-) Enjoy!

Gary the Crane: Behind the Scnes Video

A lot of folks are interested by HeuMoore's heavy duty crane. Here's a video dedicated to Gary, our beloved filmmaking tool. :-) We used Gary a lot already on The Widow's Might, and we'll be taking it to San Antonio with us in just a couple weeks to shoot the rest. He'll also be with us on August 27'th for the big crowd sequences (which yawl are invited to, by the way.) Also, 'keep the thing from tipping over' actually means 'ensure maximum stability.'

Enjoy!
